A Song for Loss
Spatial installation, 2020
The work is an installation that materializes film. It combines characters, plot, and scenes to form a state where the absence of the artist reveals the nomad condition between family, homeland and the world. Through the fabrication of empty shots and found objects, it builds a still scene to describe an uncertain state of wanting to be recognized. A Song for Loss alters the image and sound of film into a physical installation and extends time into traversable space. As the material’s eternal time interweaves with the temporal time of imagery, it reconstructs the concept of time-based media art by blurring the boundary between props and objects; scenes and spaces; plots and memories. The work explores the idea of “one body with two sides” through cinematic techniques and the form of art, and it aims to deconstruct the essence of things between personal emotions and objective perspectives—handling the weight of regrets.
