Borderless Place

Mixed media, 2022

There is a border between Lithuania and Russia in Nida where I conducted an artist residency. The concept of border for me is abstract as I am from an island country where the border means ocean. However, the border here has divided the land not only into two peninsulas but also two countries. Borderless Place is a series of image composing of photography and printmaking, RGB and CMYK, digital and material. Through mismatching mediums, it presents the invisible borders within the natural environment to reflect the contrasts between beauty and reality. The work also questions the being and nothingness. Have humans become more civilized after creating numerous borders on the planet? From Curonian Lagoon to Taiwan Strait and to the West Bank, the wildlife without nationalities may be the most blessed creatures in the world.
