A Song for Loss
Spatial Installation, 2020
Sponsored by Ministry of Culture, Taiwan
The work is an installation that materializes a film. It merges characters, plots, and scenes to form a state where the absence of the artist reveals the nomad condition between family, homeland, and the world. Through fabricating empty shots and found objects, it builds a still scene telling an uncertain state of wanting to be recognized. The work alters the image and sound of film into a physical installation and extends time into traversable space, blurring the boundary between scenes and spaces, props and objects, narratives and contexts. Addressing the issues of Taiwanese identity, international situation, and personal mental state, I aimed to handle the weight of regrets by questioning reality and fantasy in the gap between the forms of visual art and cinema.
