Borderless Place
Photography & Mixed Media, 2022
Supported by Lithuanian Photographers Association & Nida Art Colony
There is a border between Lithuania and Kaliningrad (the Russian territory) in Nida where I conducted an artist residency. The concept of border to me is abstract as I am from an island country where the border means ocean. However, the border in Nida has divided the land not only into two peninsulas but also two countries. The project is a series of images composed of photography and printmaking, RGB and CMYK, digital and physical. Through mismatching mediums, it presents the invisible borders within the natural environment to reflect the contrasts between beauty and reality. Have humans become more civilized after creating numerous borders on the planet? From Curonian Lagoon to Taiwan Strait and to the West Bank, the wildlife without nationalities may be the most blessed creatures in the world.
