moldy walls
On-site Installation, 2021
Commissioned by Treasure Hill Artist Village
When I worked as an art director on the filmmaking crew, I set scenes and made props for scripts. One day, in a new house, the director requested a moldy wall, and the ridiculous story has influenced my creations ever since. The work aims to symbolize the art production for films by building a stage scene that does not exist on-site. It is an installation located at Frontier Gallery No. 9, Treasure Hill, within an old house featuring patterned tiled floors and white walls. The space carried layers of everyday lives and events throughout the past and the present. The method of “spacing” becomes a debate of existence that is born out of nothing and is erased by its traces. It is a perception and spirit that provides insight into reality itself; while there is no moldy wall in the exhibition, the exhibition itself becomes the “moldy wall.”
